Engineering Manager

Location: Hyderabad (Work from Office) | Type: Full-time | Experience: 10–15 years | Working Days: 5 Days a Week (Mon-Fri)

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the teams building and running the core platform behind Bluecopa's finance operations product. The platform handles data processing, automation, and finance workflows at scale, and this role is responsible for its delivery, reliability, and continued evolution.

This is a technically engaged leadership role. You will lead backend, frontend, and platform engineers while staying close to architecture, technical design, code quality, and operational reliability. You should have enough depth across the stack to guide decisions and evaluate trade-offs, without needing hands-on expertise in every technology.

You will work with product managers, designers, and finance domain experts to translate finance workflows into product capabilities, and you will be accountable for both engineering outcomes and the growth and effectiveness of your team.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

Own the architecture, development, delivery, and reliability of key product capabilities.
Provide technical direction through architecture reviews, design discussions, code reviews, and production troubleshooting.
Guide the development of APIs, microservices, user-facing applications, and event-driven systems that scale reliably.
Translate finance workflows, accounting requirements, and control expectations into reliable technical designs.
Establish standards for code quality, security, testing, performance, observability, accessibility, and production readiness, enforcing them through design and code reviews.
Improve CI/CD, release practices, incident management, and operational excellence across Kubernetes-based environments.
Guide teams through complex technical decisions with sufficient depth across the stack to evaluate trade-offs and set pragmatic standards without becoming a bottleneck.
Manage technical risks and dependencies while protecting long-term platform health.
Contribute to broader engineering strategy and architecture decisions.

Team Leadership

Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of backend, frontend, and platform engineers.
Hire effectively, conduct performance reviews, and create meaningful growth paths for engineers.
Break down product and platform goals into clear, well-sequenced workstreams.
Assign work based on team strengths, development goals, and delivery priorities.
Make timely technical and prioritization decisions, including under ambiguity or incomplete information.
Own trade-off decisions between speed, scope, and long-term maintainability, communicating the reasoning clearly.
Set clear expectations, give direct and actionable feedback, and support career growth for senior engineers.
Build a culture of ownership, collaboration, and accountability.
Onboard new engineers and reduce ramp-up time through documentation and mentoring.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner with product managers, designers, and finance domain experts to scope and deliver product capabilities.
Work directly with finance stakeholders to understand accounting requirements, audit controls, and workflow expectations.
Manage delivery commitments, priorities, and dependencies across engineering, product, design, finance, and business teams.
Translate product and finance requirements into technical specifications the team can execute against.
Investigate and resolve production issues raised by customers and internal teams, driving them to root cause rather than one-off fixes.
Align the team around common product objectives and keep everyone aware of how their work connects to customer outcomes.
Communicate progress, risks, and technical constraints to stakeholders at the right level of detail.
Represent the team in roadmap, strategy, and architecture discussions.

30–60–90 Day Goals

First 30 Days — Learn & Stabilize: Understand the platform architecture, the major product areas it supports, and the current state of code quality, delivery, and production reliability. Meet every engineer, plus product, design, and finance stakeholders; understand strengths, priorities, pain points, and in-flight commitments.
By 60 Days — Own & Improve: Take full ownership of delivery, reliability, and technical direction; tighten standards for code review, testing, observability, and production readiness. Close the most pressing delivery and reliability gaps, with RCAs and corrective actions tracked to closure on every major incident. Set clear expectations with each engineer through regular one-on-ones and growth plans.
By 90 Days — Scale & Lead: Run delivery predictably — commitments scoped realistically, risks raised early, releases shipping on schedule. Have a clear technical roadmap covering platform health, technical debt, and AI capability investments, plus a hiring plan in motion. Report progress, risks, and reliability metrics to stakeholders on a regular cadence.

What We Are Looking For

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
10–15 years of software engineering experience, including significant experience managing engineering teams.
Proven experience building and scaling products in a startup or high-growth product company.
Experience leading multidisciplinary teams across backend, frontend, and platform engineering.
Strong track record of delivering complex, production-grade systems from design through operation.
Experience hiring, mentoring, managing performance, and developing senior engineers.
Familiarity with backend technologies including Java (Spring Boot), Python (Flask), and Node.js, and frontend development using Svelte, React, and TypeScript.
Strong understanding of microservices, distributed systems, REST APIs, event-driven architecture, and integration patterns.
Working knowledge of NATS or comparable messaging systems, Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, and cloud platforms.
Understanding of relational data, security, scalability, resilience, observability, and production operations.
Experience building finance or accounting products, with working knowledge of R2R, O2C, P2P, financial close, reconciliations, General Ledger, AP, AR, and journal entries.
Understanding of audit controls and ERP or source-to-ledger integrations, with comfort working directly with finance stakeholders.
Ability to operate effectively in ambiguity and collaborate across engineering, product, design, finance, and business teams.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience applying AI or machine learning to finance operations or similar enterprise workflows.
Hands-on exposure to the AI development lifecycle — data preparation, prompt and model development, evaluation frameworks, deployment, monitoring, and continuous iteration of LLM-based or agentic features.
Understanding of AI alignment and guardrails in production systems — ensuring AI-driven outputs remain accurate, auditable, and traceable, with human-in-the-loop review, controlled approvals, and clear escalation paths where AI acts on financial data.
Experience building enterprise SaaS or finance automation products.
Experience integrating with ERP ecosystems.
Experience with OpenTelemetry for distributed tracing, metrics, and observability.
Knowledge of OpenLineage or similar data-lineage frameworks.
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
