Position Overview

We are looking for a Tech Lead / Architect to own the technical direction of our core platform. You will design the services, data models, and APIs that the rest of the product is built on. You will also lead a small team of engineers, set the engineering bar, and stay hands-on in the code.

This is a build role on our core team. You will take new capabilities from a rough idea to a running service in production. You will make the calls on architecture, data flow, and trade-offs, then write code, review pull requests, and mentor the team through delivery. We value engineers who keep designs simple, dig deep into root causes, and care about systems that stay reliable as they grow.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect Core Platform Services: Define service boundaries, data models, APIs, and integration patterns for the Bluecopa platform.
• Lead End-to-End Delivery: Drive the design and delivery of new platform capabilities, taking them from technical design documents to production rollout.
• Stay Hands-On: Write production code, review pull requests, and set coding and testing standards for the team.
• Guide Day-to-Day Technical Execution: Break large problems into clear, estimable work for a team of 4–6 engineers.
• Design for Scale and Reliability: Make deliberate choices on data partitioning, caching, concurrency, idempotency, and failure handling.
• Drive Non-Functional Quality: Ensure performance, availability, observability, cost efficiency, and security in every signed-off design.
• Partner with Product: Shape requirements, flag technical risks early, and propose simpler technical paths to reach goals.
• Collaborate on Infrastructure: Work with DevOps on deployment, environment, and infrastructure decisions across Kubernetes and cloud setups.
• Manage Technical Debt: Identify system bottlenecks that slow the team down and plan high-impact refactors.
• Mentor Engineers: Grow the next generation of senior engineers through design reviews, pairing, and written feedback.
• Document Technical Standards: Write and maintain design documents, architecture decision records, and runbooks.
• Apply Domain Knowledge: Leverage finance domain expertise (accounting, close automation, reconciliation) to design data models that reflect real-world business logic.

What We Are Looking For

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 8–12 years of hands-on software engineering experience, including 2+ years leading a team or owning product architecture.
• Strong backend engineering skills in a JVM language (Java or Kotlin) or an equivalent modern stack.
• Proven track record of designing and shipping distributed, service-based systems in production.
• Deep knowledge of relational databases and SQL, including schema design, indexing, and query tuning.
• Solid experience with REST API design, versioning, and integration with third-party systems.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Working knowledge of message queues or event-driven patterns (Kafka, Pub/Sub, or similar).
• Strong grasp of automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and Git-based workflows.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams with tools like JIRA, with strong written design communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building multi-tenant SaaS platforms with tenant isolation and role-based access control (RBAC).
• Exposure to large-scale data processing or analytics pipelines (Spark, dbt, warehouse-backed workloads).
• Familiarity with modern frontend stacks (React, TypeScript) to reason about full-stack trade-offs.
• Experience with observability tooling (Grafana, Datadog, New Relic, OpenTelemetry) and production on-call ownership.
• Exposure to AI or LLM-backed product features and their underlying engineering patterns.
• Prior experience building finance, fintech, or enterprise SaaS products.
