We exist to bring finance into its next age of tooling, and eventually make it autonomous.

The Role

We're looking for a Senior Backend Developer with 4-5 years of hands-on experience building scalable, production-grade systems.

You'll work primarily with Java and Python — building services, APIs, and event-driven systems that power Bluecopa's core product. You'll own your work end-to-end: design, build, deploy, and maintain. You'll be expected to make good technical decisions independently, not just execute instructions.

This is a hands-on role. You'll write code, review code, and contribute to architecture discussions. You'll work closely with product and platform teams and will be responsible for the quality and reliability of what you ship.

What You'll Do

• Core Java Development: Design, build, and maintain scalable backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.
• API Development: Build robust web services and APIs using Python and Flask.
• Event-Driven Architecture: Implement event-driven architectures using NATS messaging — pub/sub, request/reply, and queue groups.
• Orchestration & Deployment: Deploy, manage, and optimize applications in Kubernetes environments.
• Microservices Design: Build and maintain microservices following good design patterns and principles.
• Technical Leadership: Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical architecture decisions.
• Performance Tuning: Troubleshoot and optimize application performance in containerised environments.
• CI/CD & DevOps: Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines following DevOps best practices.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to scope, build, and deliver features.

What We're Looking For

Core (All Mandatory)

• Experience: 3–4 years of experience in backend software development.
• Java Stack: Strong proficiency in Java — Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Security.
• Python Stack: Hands-on experience with Python and Flask, including REST APIs and SQLAlchemy.
• Messaging Systems: Working knowledge of NATS messaging patterns for real-time and event-driven systems.
• Container Orchestration: Experience deploying and managing applications in Kubernetes (deployments, services, ingress, ConfigMaps, Secrets).
• Architecture: Solid understanding of microservices architecture and RESTful API design.

Infrastructure & Tooling

• Containerisation: Familiarity with containerisation technologies — Docker.
• DevOps: Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Version Control: Comfort with Git and collaborative development workflows.

Web & Systems

• Protocols: Good understanding of web technologies: HTTP, REST, WebSocket, gRPC.
• Databases: Experience with SQL databases; NoSQL is a plus.

Good to Have

• Experience with OpenTelemetry for distributed tracing and metrics.
• Knowledge of Open Lineage for data lineage tracking.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms — AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience working in agile development environments.
