Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Lead QA – Platform to own the quality of the Bluecopa platform beyond the happy path. While our Lead QA – Functional focuses on validating business use cases and functional correctness, this role is accountable for everything that surrounds and stress-tests those use cases: negative testing, edge cases and boundary conditions, complex end-to-end workflows, non-functional requirements (NFRs), quality governance, and the integrity of data connectors and data management across the platform.

The ideal candidate thinks adversarially about software — deliberately probing how the platform behaves with malformed inputs, boundary data, failure injections, concurrency conflicts, and broken integrations — and builds the frameworks, standards, and governance to make that rigor repeatable. You'll partner closely with engineering leadership, product managers, platform engineers, and the functional QA team to ensure the platform is not only correct, but resilient, performant, and trustworthy with customer data at scale.

Key Responsibilities

Negative Testing, Edge Cases & Boundary Analysis

• Own the negative testing strategy for the platform — systematically design test scenarios for invalid inputs, malformed payloads, unauthorized operations, out-of-sequence actions, and failure paths across UI, API, and data layers.
• Drive edge case and boundary value analysis for business-critical logic: numeric precision and rounding, currency and locale boundaries, date/time and timezone edges, fiscal period cutoffs, empty/null/duplicate data, and extreme data volumes.
• Define data boundary test suites that validate field-level limits, schema constraints, data type coercions, truncation behavior, and precision handling across ingestion, transformation, and reporting layers.
• Build and maintain a reusable catalog of negative and edge-case test patterns that functional QA and engineering teams can apply consistently across features.
• Test error handling, validation messaging, graceful degradation, and recovery behavior — ensuring failures are contained, observable, and actionable.

Workflow & Platform Testing

• Design and execute end-to-end tests for complex, multi-step finance workflows — including branching paths, approvals, retries, rollbacks, partial failures, and long-running or scheduled processes.
• Validate workflow state management: interrupted executions, concurrent edits, idempotency of re-runs, orphaned states, and correctness of workflow versioning and migrations.
• Test cross-module interactions and integration seams where workflows span connectors, data pipelines, calculations, and reporting.

Data Connectors & Data Management

• Own quality for the platform's data connectors and integrations — validating authentication, sync behavior (full/incremental), schema drift handling, pagination, rate limits, retries, and failure recovery for each connector.
• Perform deep data validation across pipelines: source-to-target reconciliation, transformation correctness, deduplication, ordering guarantees, and data completeness/accuracy checks using complex SQL.
• Test data lifecycle behaviors — backfills, re-syncs, deletes/archival, data corrections, and their downstream impact on reports and workflows.
• Simulate connector failure modes (source downtime, credential expiry, partial payloads, corrupt records) and verify platform resilience and alerting.

Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs)

• Define and own the NFR test strategy — performance, scalability, reliability, concurrency, and resilience — with clear benchmarks and pass/fail criteria per release.
• Conduct performance and load testing (JMeter, k6, Gatling, or similar) on APIs, data pipelines, and heavy workflows; identify bottlenecks and regressions early.
• Validate security-adjacent quality concerns: access control and role boundaries, tenant data isolation, input sanitization, and audit trail completeness.
• Verify observability requirements — logging, alerting, and monitoring coverage for failure scenarios uncovered in testing.

Quality Governance & Leadership

• Establish quality governance for the platform: entry/exit criteria, quality gates in CI/CD, release sign-off standards, risk-based test prioritization, and defect severity/SLA policies.
• Define and track quality metrics — escaped defects, negative-path coverage, NFR compliance, connector reliability — and report them to engineering and product leadership.
• Ensure test evidence, traceability, and documentation practices support audit readiness and compliance expectations of enterprise finance customers.
• Lead and mentor QA engineers on negative testing, boundary analysis, and platform testing techniques; raise the bar for adversarial test design across the organization.
• Partner with the Lead QA – Functional to ensure clear ownership boundaries, shared frameworks, and complete combined coverage of functional and platform quality.
• Integrate automated negative, boundary, and NFR test suites into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar) for continuous validation.

What We Are Looking For

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 7–8 years of hands-on experience in software quality assurance, with demonstrated depth in negative testing, edge case discovery, and boundary value analysis — including experience leading or mentoring QA engineers.
• Proven experience testing complex workflows and platform/infrastructure-level behavior — not just feature-level functional validation.
• Strong experience testing data integrations, connectors, or ETL/data pipelines, including source-to-target reconciliation and schema/contract validation.
• Expert-level SQL — complex queries, joins, and analytical queries for large-scale backend data validation.
• Solid understanding of API testing (REST/SOAP) with hands-on experience in Postman, REST Assured, or similar — including negative and contract testing of APIs.
• Hands-on experience with NFR testing: performance/load testing tools (JMeter, k6, Gatling) and defining measurable non-functional acceptance criteria.
• Proven expertise in test automation using Playwright or Selenium WebDriver, with strong programming skills in Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Python.
• Experience establishing QA governance — quality gates, release criteria, test standards, and metrics-driven reporting.
• Experience with version control (Git), CI/CD tools, and Agile/Scrum practices with JIRA, TestRail, or Zephyr.
• Finance domain experience: hands-on testing of systems in accounting, close automation, reconciliation, or related financial processes — with the judgment to know where financial data can silently go wrong.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience testing microservices-based, event-driven, or multi-tenant SaaS architectures.
• Knowledge of data warehousing and pipeline tools (Snowflake, BigQuery, dbt, Informatica, Talend, or similar).
• Exposure to chaos engineering, fault injection, or resilience testing practices.
• Familiarity with contract testing (Pact or similar) and schema validation tooling.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Understanding of compliance and audit expectations for enterprise finance software (e.g., SOC 2, audit trails).
• Prior experience testing finance, fintech, or enterprise SaaS products.
• ISTQB or equivalent QA certification.
